Who are you interning under, what is your role?

I am interning under Laura Mynahan, and shadowing Lauren Wutka. I’m an interior design intern, and so I’m assigned projects and help with all of the interior design work. It’s a lot of renderings and using programs like SketchUp and InDesign.

How did you hear about Element?

On Handshake.

Have you interned with us before, if not, have you interned elsewhere?

This is my first internship with Element. I did an internship last summer for a woman who ran her own business called Solstice Design in Kensington, NH.

Where do you go to school? What year are you and what do you study? Any courses that prepared you for this internship?

I go to Endicott College where I’m an interior architecture major and an upcoming junior. I went to Exeter High School before that.

Brooke graduating from Exeter High School (2017-2020)

Mostly all of my media classes, where we learn how to use Photoshop, InDesign, SketchUp and all those types of programs. Those were really helpful, because otherwise I would have no idea use those things.  I’ve also had studio classes where we got to do a lot of creative things and come up with concepts. That was helpful too.

What drew you to your field?

I’ve just always loved it. When I was younger I would rearrange my room all the time. And I had a design app on my iPad that I would play around with, and redesign houses or come up with a bunch of ideas. I’ve always had a ton of designs in my head.

What are some goals that you wish to accomplish through this internship? Is there something that you are most excited to be working on/currently working on?

I really want to see a lot of the materials they use when designing and the process you go through working with companies. I think I’ve already experienced that a lot since I’ve been here.

Shauna Cronin and I got to see a nearby site, and I’d like to see how that turns out. There’s another project I’m really excited about, and I’d love to see it for real because I got to work on some of the renderings for it.

now for some Fun Questions!

Any pets?

I have four dogs and two horses! My dogs are Diamond, Arlo, Apollo, and Lila. They’re all rescues.

Brooke’s dogs!

Do you play a sport?

I played lacrosse for a couple of years in high school, but then I got knee surgery. And I’ve always liked competitions, but I’m not very coordinated so sports were never my thing.

“Weirdest” hobby?

I’ve always just liked designing stuff in my free time. Which is kind of funny because growing up, everyone on the weekend is just wanting to go play sports or do whatever. And I would go to the beach and just design things on my iPad.

Recently read, listened to, or watched etc.? What stood out?

I just watched The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022) with my friend. It was really good! It’s about younger girls in high school. I want to read the book. I’ve always hated reading since I’m such a slow reader, but lately I’ve started to like it. My friend started reading the book, so she’s gonna report back to me and tell me if it’s worth it.

Coffee, Tea, Other?

The source of Brooke’s caffeine addiction: Aroma Joe’s energy drinks!

I wish I liked coffee because I have a crazy caffeine addiction. Everyone downstairs probably knows but I’m so obsessed with Aroma Joe’s and their energy drinks. I’ve tried to expand my horizons, because my dad is obsessed with coffee and he’s always trying to get me to like his coffee. But I just can’t with the taste.

Give me one additional fun fact about you!

I have a flat rock collection! My friend has a rock sidewall, and for some reason I thought that was really cool. I like to go to the beach, and when I see really flat rocks, I hold onto them. I have about 20. I want the flattest rock so that I can eventually have a giant stack of them!

Special thanks to Brooke for the interview! make sure to follow her on LikedIn and read the rest of the intern spotlights!

A firm believer in the concept that 'beauty will save the world,' Bryn holds a B.A. in History at Ave Maria University, and a minor in Medieval Studies. While at Ave she completed her thesis "Influences on Material Culture: Catherine de Medici and the Art of Political and Social Display," where she argued for the presence of Catherine’s Italianate and Florentine upbringing as manifested in material sources. Over the past five years, she has worked at Element as an intern, and then content developer specializing in writing. In following C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton, who wrote that magic and wonder are found in the everyday, Bryn works to combine historical research with the creative skills of directing, acting, and set decoration. Her set decoration work can be seen in Canticle Productions' upcoming films 'Hazel' and 'Medora: Empress of the Badlands.' Bryn’s “element” usually involves some degree of horseback riding, exploring literature, appreciating art, or learning about production design. She believes in the importance of seeing and loving people to the fullest, making genuine connections, and sharing divine mercy.
